A Romantic Engagement Shoot at The Pergola and Hill Garden, London’s Hidden Gem
Ellie and Nick’s engagement shoot at The Pergola and Hill Garden in Hampstead Heath was nothing short of magical. Tucked away in North London, this real-life hidden gem was the perfect backdrop for a romantic, relaxed, and joy-filled session that perfectly reflected their love.
A Secret Garden in the Heart of London
If you’ve never been, The Pergola and Hill Garden is honestly one of London’s best-kept secrets. With overgrown wisteria, climbing roses, and grand stone archways, it feels like stepping straight into a fairytale.
It’s breathtaking all year round, but in spring and summer, when everything’s in bloom, it’s pure magic. The combination of classical architecture, lush greenery, and peaceful atmosphere makes it an absolute dream for engagement photography.
A Place Steeped in History
Fun fact: The Pergola actually dates back to 1904! It was commissioned by Lord Leverhulme, who wanted a grand garden walkway surrounding his Hampstead estate, The Hill. With the help of landscape architect Thomas Mawson, the project began in 1905 — but thanks to World War I, it wasn’t completed until 1925.
Today, it’s a beautifully preserved spot filled with history, charm, and quiet corners perfect for romantic engagement photos.
Capturing Ellie & Nick’s Love Story
Ellie and Nick had never been to The Pergola before, so it was such a treat to show them around one of my favourite hidden London spots. From the moment they arrived, they were blown away by the views, the gardens, and the atmosphere.
The whole shoot was relaxed, full of laughter, little jokes, and those natural, in-between moments that show what love really looks like. They wandered hand-in-hand through the stone pathways framed by vines and sunlight, completely at ease with each other.
The soft morning light filtered through the arches, creating this dreamy, golden glow that made every image feel alive and full of warmth.
